This project is about giving us an option that doesn’t exist today. When we are craving something delicious and refreshing, but out of the ordinary. Sugary drinks are bad for our health, as are the chemicals used in diet soda. We’ll use neither by bringing the Shrub back!
What is a Shrub? It’s a beverage that originated hundreds of years ago when vinegar was used to preserve fruit. After months of infusion the vinegar would take on the sweet natural taste of the fruit that had been soaking in it. This resulting infusion was then used to create beverages. The natural sweetness of fruit balanced out the bitterness associated with vinegar (balsamic in our case), creating an explosion of flavor unavailable anywhere else!
AND we are Whole30™ compliant! There are no added sugars in the balsamic vinegar or the drink, as all sugars present are naturally-occurring from the fruit ingredients.
Over two years ago after admitting I had little control over my drinking habit, I had to kick alcohol out of my life for good. Through an incredible amount of support from my wife, family, and friends, I was given the gift of sobriety. Throughout that process many things became clear to me - most of which is that I have been given many gifts in my life, and it’s time I start paying them forward. This business is a step toward that end, as we will be committing a portion of our profits to charities focused on helping those in need.
Reaching our three stepping-stones of $20,000 will enable us to purchase all the raw materials, complete our first production run at our co-packer, and finally deliver all the gifts promised through this campaign - all the critical pieces to starting our business.
Help us bring back the drink that refrigeration killed!
Profits Going to Charity
Your donations will help determine which charity will receive a portion of our profits once the business is profitable. We will poll our supporters at the end of the campaign to help us determine which of the great causes generate the most passion. At Shrub, we’ve selected the following three charities as our finalists:
LifeWorks NW, Oregon Humane Society, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Have your own passion? Think we’ve missed the best charity? Shoot us a note on Twitter, Facebook, or our web page!
We hope you’ll join us in helping make our dream of changing lives through entrepreneurship and small business. Thank you!
